Tax Bills - 3rd Quarter - Time Extension |
|
|
|
The Township of Montville has just received its certified tax rate from the State of New Jersey. Therefore, as many residents have surmised, tax bills are being mailed out late. Tax bills will be mailed by Friday, August 8, 2008. The grace period for paying bills without interest penalty has been extended until Wednesday, September 3, 2008.

Senior citizen volunteers take a break from preparing the tax bill mailing to pose for a picture with the Township Administrator.

Montville Township Supports Local Soldiers |
|
|
|
The Montville Township Committee, Montville Environmental Commission, Montville Township Women’s Club and Urban Renewal Inc presented laptop computers to the local soldiers who are currently being deployed for additional military tours of duty in the Middle East. A presentation ceremony was held at the Montville Township Committee Meeting on May 13th. Cub Scout Pack #68 was also on hand to honor the soldiers.
Mark Peer, Robert Peer, Richard Tichenor III, Kyle Witty, Steve Albert, Shea Entholt, Ryan Lind, Joe Davieau, and Robert Kirshner are all scheduled to be deployed by the end of June. Mark Peer was the first to leave for duty in May. Some of the soldiers also serve as volunteers with the Montville, Towaco and Pine Brook fire departments in their neighborhoods. The refurbished laptops will be given to the soldiers in order for them to maintain contact with their families while in combat duties overseas.
On April 26th the Montville Environmental Commission and Montville
Women’s Club sponsored a Computer Recycling in the Township. The
recycling effort was run by Urban Renewal Inc in Newark. Urban Renewal
Inc is a nonprofit charitable organization that collects, recycles and
refurbishes electronics. Through their efforts, they employ the
homeless or less fortunate residents in Newark. They provide them
valuable job skills, housing, education, food and clothing. The work
done by Urban Renewal solves many of today’s environmental and
socioeconomic issues that face New Jersey. After an extensive training
program most residents are able to find good paying jobs and return
back to a self-sufficient lifestyle. The environmental service they
perform is invaluable.
Lane Jacobs, the President of Urban Renewal, is a proud supporter
of the men and women in the Military who are deployed to Middle East to
serve our country. Along with the many computer donations at the
Montville Computer Recycling, laptops topped well over 17 units. The
laptops will all be cleaned and refurbished with a new life and
purpose. Keeping our soldiers in communications while away from home is
just one of the many wonderful programs that Urban Renewal
accomplishes.

PSE&G Selects Montville Route |
|
|
|
On Monday, August 04, 2008, PSE&G announced that they
have selected Route B as the preferred route for the new 500 kv transmission
line. This is the route that utilizes
the existing PSE&G right-of-way (ROW) through Montville. The Township Committee will continue to
monitor this process and determine the best course of action for the Township.
Currently a 230 kv transmission line runs the length of the
ROW through Montville. A new 500 kv
transmission line would be added to the existing 230 kv service. It is the Township’s understanding that the
existing metal framework towers would be replaced with monopoles or framework
structures, with the new 500 kv service located at a height above the 230 kv
service.
The new line is being proposed to meet the long-term
growing demand for electricity.
PSE&G predicts that without the new transmission service overloads
on the existing line will start as early as 2013. Pending approvals, construction would start in late 2009 with
completion of the new line in time for the summer of 2012.

A map of the proposed route is available on the
project’s Web site
