Water Hydrant Flushing
Beginning April 3, 2018
The Twp. Hydrant Flushing will begin weekdays starting
APRIL 3rd between the hours of 9AM-3PM. The
purpose is to remove accumulated sediment in water mains and comply with new NJ
DEP regulations that require all Township hydrants be inspected and
flushed. This procedure will be more
time consuming, therefore we will not be able to estimate how quickly we will
be able to complete the flushing of the Township water system.
Discolored or cloudy water is
potable, but not desirable for use. We strongly recommend that customers
refrain from doing laundry & using water for drinking and cooking from 9am
to 5pm.
We have divided the Township
into 4 areas which were determined by which water tank feeds the area. Please refer to the Hydrant Flushing Area Map or the Street List to determine which area you are in. The areas will be flushed in the following
order: red, yellow, blue then green.
Please monitor the Street List
to follow our progress. The rate of progress
is directly affected by the flushing conditions found as our team moves through
the Township.
Please keep in mind that
discolored water could occur at any time during the flushing period but more
likely when we flush the water mains in your neighborhood. The Street List will be updated periodically
to show streets that have been flushed.
SCHOOLS & RESTAURANTS WILL BE NOTIFIED IN ADVANCE
OF FLUSHING IN THE LOCATION’S AREA.
This process could result in
discolored/cloudy water or low pressure during & immediately following the
daily flushing. If you experience
discolored water, wait until the crew is away from your immediate area or until
the flushing period is over for the day, open the cold-water faucets on the
lowest floor of the house & allow the water to run until it clears (usually
within 30 min).
For water emergencies between
the hours of 8:30 am to 4:30pm, contact the Water & Sewer Dept. at
973-331-3330. After hours please contact
the Montville Police Dept.
