Annual Hydrant Flushing: March 31 - April 30, 2014 Print E-mail

Annual Hydrant Flushing

March 31, 2014 – April 30, 2014

No flushing will occur April 14 – April 18, 2014

The Annual Hydrant Flushing will take place on weekdays from MARCH 31st to APRIL 30th between the hours of 9AM-3PM.  WE WILL NOT BE FLUSHING DURING THE HOLIDAY WEEK OF APRIL 14th - 18th.  This is being done to remove accumulated sediment from our water mains.

We have divided the Township into 4 areas based on which water tank feeds the area.  Please refer to the Hydrant Flushing Area Map to determine which area you are in.  The areas will be flushed in the following order:  red, yellow, blue then green.  Please monitor the Progress Map and Street List to follow our progress.  The rate of progress will be directly affected by the flushing conditions found as our team moves through the Township.

Please keep in mind that discolored water could occur in your home or business at any time during the flushing period but more likely when we flush the water mains in your neighborhood.  The progress map will be updated periodically to show areas that have been completed.

SCHOOLS AND RESTAURANTS WILL BE NOTIFIED IN ADVANCE OF FLUSHING IN THEIR AREA.

This process could result in discolored/cloudy water or low pressure during and immediately following the daily flushing.  If you experience discolored water, open the cold-water faucets on the lowest floor of the house and allow the water to run until it clears (usually within 30 min). If it persists, call the Water and Sewer office at 973-331-3330.

Discolored or cloudy water is safe to consume, but not desirable for use.  We strongly recommend that water softeners be bypassed during the day throughout the flushing period and and that you refrain from doing laundry and using water for drinking and cooking from 9am to 5pm.

Spring Recycling

April 26th is also the day the Montville Township Environmental Commission will host its Annual Recycling Day.  The event will be held in the parking lot of the Municipal Building, located at 195 Changebridge Road from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Cintas Document Management will provide Montville residents with free paper shredding for all of their personal paperwork such as medical, legal, and banking items. Residents can pull up to the paper destruction truck and have their cartons emptied into the shredder.

Urban Renewal Corporation (URC) of Newark will have a truck ready for the collection of computers, monitors, printers, faxes and other electronic items.  These electronic items will be brought back to the URC headquarters in Newark where they are separated, weighed, broken down and refurbished into a new life instead of ending up in a landfill.

It is the goal of the Environmental Commission and the Township of Montville to make recycling easy, convenient and less costly for all residents!

Please do your part to Keep Montville Township Green -

Participate in the Spring Cleanup, then bring your paper and electronics for free recycling.
