JCP&L’s Montville-Whippany 230 kV Transmission Project Print E-mail

BACKGROUND:  On March 27, 2015, JCP&L filed an application with the Board of Public Utilities seeking to construct a transmission line between its substations in East Hanover and Montville.  This line will run through the Township of Montville and this section of the Township’s website is dedicated to providing the public with any updates regarding this application.

UPDATE #1 (4/24/15):  The Township of Montville is about to file an application to intervene in this action.  A copy of the Motion to Intervene will be available via a link that will be posted on this page.  The Motion requests the ability of Montville to represent the municipality and comment and object to the application filed by JCP&L.  Accordingly, it is hoped and anticipated that the application will be approved so the Township of Montville will be able to fully participate in JCP&L’s application.

In the meantime, the special engineering consultants, Maser and Associates, have reviewed the application and provided preliminary comments regarding this matter to the Administration.  In addition, Maser has consulted with legal counsel for the Township regarding possible additional experts and the extent of the scope of their services that will be necessary to vigorously oppose this application on behalf of the residents of the Township of Montville.

Finally, if you, or any group of individuals, seek to retain legal counsel, you should contact Fred Semrau, Esq., the Township’s municipal attorney, at 973-334-1900 or Victor Canning, Township Administrator at 973-331-3302 with any questions or to discuss the coordination of such efforts.  Rest assured that the representation of the Township will be to serve the interest of all residents.

We will continue to post weekly updates here regarding this matter.

Annual Hydrant Flushing: April 13 - May 1, 2015 Print E-mail

Annual Hydrant Flushing

April 13, 2015 – May 1, 2015

The Annual Hydrant Flushing will take place on weekdays from APRIL 13th to MAY 1st between the hours of 9AM-3PM.  This is being done to remove accumulated sediment from our water mains.

We have divided the Township into 4 areas based on which water tank feeds the area.  Please refer to the Hydrant Flushing Area Map to determine which area you are in.  The areas will be flushed in the following order:  red, yellow, blue then green.  Please monitor the and Street List to follow our progress.  The rate of progress will be directly affected by the flushing conditions found as our team moves through the Township.

Please keep in mind that discolored water could occur in your home or business at any time during the flushing period but more likely when we flush the water mains in your neighborhood.  The Street List will be updated periodically to show streets that have been completed.

SCHOOLS AND RESTAURANTS WILL BE NOTIFIED IN ADVANCE OF FLUSHING IN THEIR AREA.

This process could result in discolored/cloudy water or low pressure during and immediately following the daily flushing.  If you experience discolored water, open the cold-water faucets on the lowest floor of the house and allow the water to run until it clears (usually within 30 min). If it persists, call the Water and Sewer office at 973-331-3330.

Discolored or cloudy water is safe to consume, but not desirable for use.  We strongly recommend that water softeners be bypassed during the day throughout the flushing period and and that you refrain from doing laundry and using water for drinking and cooking from 9am to 5pm.

Street List as of Apr 24
