Montville Township Environmental Commission
May 19, 2010
Meeting began promptly at 7:35pm.
Roll Call. Absent with excuse, Tim Braden.
Present: Michele Caron, James
Muhaw, Angelo Intile, Larry Kornreich, Vic Canning, Garry Annibal. Monica Mirnecki
Minutes of April Meeting
Minutes were tabled to the June 15th
meeting.
New Business
Sub-Committees Reports
Board of Adjustment – Michele Caron
Lou Caggiano is looking to build a
house on Hog Road. The property has a brook and a dam. Neighbors are concerned about runoff and
flooding from the dam. Carried to June 2nd meeting.
Board of Education – Hugh Merritt
Mr. Merritt has been attending the
meetings. He states that special education
programs and Every Drop Counts are eliminated.
Michelle Caron states that there are grants available for environmental
issues.
Mr. Merritt reported that the Rain Garden
project is completed. 39 people attended
and was successful.
Economic Development – James Muhaw
Mr. Muhaw reported that they
discussed the Master plan updates. It
encompasses Route 202 from Waughaw
Road to Boonton, to include bike paths, walkways
and service roads. Mr. Canning stated that Quick Check is being opposed by the
neighbors because of traffic, but the service road would alleviate a lot of the
traffic. He also stated that a gas
station is not an allowed use on the property.
Mr. Muhaw stated that Route 46 is zoned for gas stations.
Health Department – Garry Annibal
Mr. Annibal reports that the
Health Dept has looked at 13 facilities: hockey, biking and fitness, monopol at
Cooks Lane,
HVAC system at Marotta. The only denial
was given to a cable dispatching center.
The township applied for CDBG and were denied. Mr. Merritt states that the Food pantry is
open and available to all Township residents.
Open Space Committee – Angelo Intile
No news to report
Planning Board – Victor Canning
No news to report
Township Committee – Tim Braden,
absent.
No news to report.
Rails Steakhouse – At Planning
Board for Site Plan Approval. Michelle
Caron will review the plans and pass it on to the members.
Tiera Properties – Treatment works
applications on Woodland Road. Garry Annibal will find out more about this
project.
Algonquin gas transmission line –
maintenance – Hugh Merritt states they will clean the surface and weed wack.
16 & 18 Old Lane – Highlands
application.
Croation Culture club – Highlands application.
Plausha Park –
Hugh Merrit reports that 61 families are
affected in the area of Barney
Road. The
cost will be $900,000. The township will
cover $300,000 and the residents will cover $600,000. There will be a meeting tonight. Mr. Merritt will report back next month.
Old Business
Recycling Day – Huge
success….. 16 bicycles were donated to
Pedals for Progress. Urban Renewal collected
500 computers and 70 laptops. Monica Mianecki questioned if next year a
television recycling company could participate.
Jim Muhaw discussed selling
composters and rain barrels. Other towns are selling them.
Arbor Day – Matt Meyers received donations from the Home Depot and
other donors.
Out Reach Programs – No discussions.
Sustainable Jersey Program – 12 people attended.
Tony Garrett did a presentation. NJ Clean Energy rebate program began
May 1. $25 - $250 per energy star
appliance purchased. Township is looking
to go down to one garbage pick up per week.
