MINUTES
OF AUGUST 17, 2011

Board of
Adjustment – Michele Caron has no report.
Board of
Education – Hugh Merritt reports that the BOE approached the garden club
asking them to build a rain garden at the
High School.
Economic
Development – Monica Mianecki reports that Tom Mazzacarro spoke to
them regarding water & sewer fees.
Health
Department – Garry Annibal reports that the Board of Health did not meet.
Open
Space Committee – Angelo Intile has no report.

On a motion made by Sergio Angione and seconded by Monica
Mianecki, the July 20, 2011 minutes were approved by voice vote.
OLD BUSINESS
ENVIRONMENTAL HANDBOOK – Larry Kornreich spoke with Meghan Hunscher.
She will work with the Planning Board to get it completed.
ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES INVENTORY
– Sergio Angione thinks that the grant deadline has passed. Larry Kornreich will check.
OPEN
SPACE PLAN – Larry Kornreich and Angelo Intile drove Changebridge Road to see where sidewalks
should be located.
REVIEW OF THE TOWNSHIP’S TREE ORDINANCE – There was
discussion to have the ordinance enforced and fees that are collected can be
used to purchase new trees.
NEW BUSINESS
RECYCLING ASSISTANCE TO THE TOWNSHIP – Mr. Brewer states
that the recycling rate at this time is 40%.
He would like to see a rate of 50%. New containers have been installed
in all the township parks and schools.
The schools are the largest recycling generator in the township. In 2009
the township has 16,600 tons of recycling.
In 2010 the township had 21,000 tons.
There is an article in all the Montville Messenger newsletters.
Future goals for the Environmental Commission will be to
meet with all of the Condo Associations and discuss with them their needs to
improve recycling. Mr. Brewer will set
up training sessions with the MUA for the Commissioners.
Mr. Brewer states that two companies in Montville have received awards from the
MUA. Rockline Industries has a 97%
recycling rate and Bayer recycles 100% of the waste from their kitchen.
