On Tuesday, April 10, 2012 the Montville Township Committee
voted unanimously to introduce the 2012 municipal budget at their regularly
scheduled meeting. As introduced, the
2012 municipal budget represents an increase in spending of $134,984 or 0.47%
over the 2011 adopted budget. This has a
corresponding impact of a 2.37% increase on the municipal tax levy, which is
compliant with the State mandated tax levy cap.
All of these percentages translate to an increase in municipal taxes of
approximately $50 for the average assessed home of $528,339 (post revaluation).
Municipalities in the state of New Jersey are contending with many
obstacles regarding their budgets. The challenges
associated with the preparation of this budget are a reoccurring theme during
these economic times. In
2011 the Township experienced a shortfall in realized revenue due to issues
associated with the general state of the economy, had to contend with the impact of tax appeals,
and experienced two emergencies – Hurricane Irene and the October Snow Storm. The Township Committee and staff worked
diligently to prepare a budget that maintains the high level of service the
Township’s residents expect, while controlling spending.
On Tuesday, June 12, 2012 the 2012 budget was adopted.
