Commission
February 17, 2010
Meeting began promptly at 7:40pm
Roll Call. Absent
with excuse, Hugh Merritt.
Present: Michele Caron, James

Minutes of January Meeting
Minutes were approved by
Commission as e-mailed. Eligible voters: L.Kornreich, S.Angione, M.Caron, V.
Canning, A. Intile, G. Annibal, M. Mianecki
Environmental Commission Secretaries
The township employees have been
contacted in regards to filling the open position.
Progress and candidates will be
discussed at next meeting. Further action will be made if no interest is shown
within the township employees.
New Business
Sub-Committees Reports
Board of Adjustment – Michele Caron
Quick Check meeting scheduled for
March 3rd. No further information to report
Board of Education – Hugh Merritt
Through e-mail, Mr. Merritt gave
updates to commission members of the school projects and rain garden project he
is working on.
Economic Development – James Muhaw
Mr. Muhaw reported about the first
meeting and diversity of talent on this new committee.
Health Department – Garry Annibal
Gave updates on Quick Check
variance for gasoline sales, Use granted to a pharmaceutical company on
Changebridge Rd. Sewer connection updates and septic tank approval for those
with hardships on Konner Ave.
Open Space Committee – Angelo Intile
Meeting tomorrow AM
Planning Board – Victor Canning
Steffanelli – Kanouse Ln- Montville
– Soil movement issue, Planning Board denied soil movement permits with
prejudice, and has sent back to the Township Committee for further action.
Township Committee – Tim Braden
No news to report.
Time of Decision Ruling
Not an environmental ordinance. No
action required by this commission.
Old Business
PMN09-Saia, Sal
– 107 Changebridge Rd. – B 123, L:2 – Minor
Subdivision. No discussion. Waiting on DEP rulings. Still waiting on word.
Environmental Commission Mission
Statement/Goals and Objectives.
Larry Kornreich and Monica
Mianecki working on wording.
Recycling Day – May 1st. Urban Renewal is a GO for this date.
No charge. Angelo Intile was in contact with Shred It Corp. They have asked for
$300 to attend. We do not have a budget. Michele Caron will reach out to
another firm for interest.
Furniture Assist Inc, a furniture
and appliance recycling non profit in Union
NJ will be contacted to see if
they have an interest in sending a collection truck or to attend and have a
booth to provide information to residents.
Angelo Intile asked the commission
for interest in Pedals 4 People. A non profit group that collects bicycles and
refurbishes them, and distributes the “new” bikes to people in need. There
would be a $10.00 donation per bicycle collected. Michele Caron will address
the Kiwanis to ask for their assistance with this project. Women’s Club and Key
Club have helped with Computer Recycling and Paper Shred. Commission feels more
adults are need to volunteer with this growing recycling program. The need for
signage was discussed. Without a budget, commission members will seek out
donors to help with making signs. Adam Brewer will also be contacted in regards
to signage.
Arbor Day – April
30th Last Friday in April. Matt Meyers, science teacher at Lazar Middle
School in Honoree. Arbor Day Poster Contest
winner is 5th grader Tammi Roberti from Cedar Hill School. Letters and permission documents
are being sent to school and parents. Winning Poster will be sent to State
Arbor Day Foundation for judging at this level.
Invitation will start to be sent
out to all State and County dignitaries will be contacted for their
participation.
ANJEC Training Courses – Saturday March 13th
– Environmental Commission Training to Protect Natural Resources, Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation Building.
All commission members were asked to attend. Michele Caron will check with
Linda White to be sure the dues was paid and the educational component was also
covered. She will be in contact with all commission members regarding
attendance once this is confirmed.
